Skua Ice Scraper
This was an ergonomics and grip studies project to design for winter labor workers and custodians who remove snow and ice from stairs. Depending on how snow and ice are present on a walkway, workers use shovels, ice scrapers, or salt. I focused on the ergonomics of the scraper especially, and I designed a bulged and sloped handle that can offer better control and help dissipate shock force to the hand with a larger surface area. I carved a maple handle prototype to replace the broken rubber handle on an existing scraper, and it has been in use for several winters.
